Las Vegas is the most populous city in the state of Nevada and is situated in the midst of the southern Nevada desert. Las Vegas, or simply "Vegas", is known for its gaming action and world-class entertainers and shows. There are many lavish hotels and casinos (such as the Venetian, Harrah's, Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Luxor and Circus Circus), and numerous wedding chapels and venues. Las Vegas is a popular destination for the famous, and not so famous, to tie the knot.

Outdoor lighting displays are everywhere on the Las Vegas Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) and are seen elsewhere in the city as well. For example, in the evening, the "volcano" in front of the Mirage Casino erupts in a terrific light show and the Fountains of the Bellagio perform a magnificent display (set to music) in the evenings and every hour on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Then, walk through a transparent tunnel with sharks, sea turtles, and fish on all sides at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. On the first Friday of each month, enjoy the "First Friday" celebration where local artists and musicians gather in a section of the city's downtown region called the "Arts District".

The all-you-can-eat buffet can be found at nearly every casino. For more serious dining, there are many good restaurants in the hotels/casinos, such as Grand Lux Cafe at Venetian, the Cheesecake Factory at Caesars Palace, or Mon Ami Gabi at Paris Las Vegas and throughout the city, such as the Anna Bella Restaurant, Hikari Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, and the Marrakech Restaurant.

CAT Bus is a popular means of transportation, along with the Las Vegas Monorail which runs from the MGM Grand Hotel at the south end of the Strip to the Sahara Hotel and Casino at the north end of the Strip.

If you want to get away for the day, Red Rock Canyon is just 20 miles west of the city, Boulder Dam and Lake Mead are 25 miles east of the city, and the Valley of Fire is about 60 miles to the north and offers some unique hiking and sightseeing opportunities.
